In a sector as closely linked to science as space, the importance of reducing the gender gap in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers is fundamental. For this reason, the trend perceived in Europe, where for every 1,000 women graduated in higher education in the EU, only 24 are in fields related to ICT compared to 92 men per 1,000, is very worrying and is an issue before which must be acted upon from all areas.

Today is precisely the International Day of Girls and Women in Science, whose objective is to encourage the participation of women and girls in science based on equal opportunities. This is the reason for our HISPASAT “Woman Engineer” Scholarship, which annually enables a female student with a good academic record to pursue postgraduate studies in a qualifying master's degree in Aeronautical or Telecommunications Engineering related to the aerospace sector. This scholarship, which now has five editions, aims to promote the presence of female talent in the technological field and thus contribute both to the professional development of women in these studies and to the increase in the number of women in the space sector.
